Tasked with the "caveman hustle," Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani were apprehensive about the routine "looking stupid." In rehearsal, Dovolani injured his back, but was cleared to dance—and even brought Rycroft through several lifts. A computer animated dinosaur kicked off the dance that underwhelmed the judges. "It was the hustle without a hassle," Len Goodman said, adding that they "captured the flavor of the caveman." (Was that a compliment or a criticism?) Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba critiqued the pair's technique. "You lost your footing a little," Tonioli said. Inaba said she "liked the caveman parts better than the hustle." Score: 27.5
The second hour of the show was devoted to Michael Jackson tribute performances. Rycroft and Dovolani returned for an Argentine Tango to "Dirty Diana" so masterful, the panel unanimously agreed that they have a shot at the mirror-ball trophy. "I would be really disappointed if you weren't here next week," Goodman said. Tonioli agreed that the pair "deserves to be in the finals." "I can't believe you're the underdog, because that was out of this world," Inaba said. Score: 30, for a total of 57.5
